How is BMI calculated?

BMI is calculated as body mass (kg) divided by height (m) squared.

BMI = weight (kg) / height² (m)

Example: a 70 kg person at 175 cm (1.75 m) has BMI = 70 / (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.86.
